Araghchi: US return to Islamabad commitments key to easing regional tensions

Tehran - BORNA  - Iran's Foreign Minister attributed the responsibility for the current tense situation in the region to the "regrettable violation" of US commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, stating: "The solution is simple. The US side's return to and compliance with its commitments and signature under the Islamabad Memorandum will pave the way for a return to normal conditions."

Araghchi also outlined the latest status of Iran-Oman negotiations regarding the Strait of Hormuz, reporting "significant progress" in the two countries' talks on establishing a temporary transit route through the strait, and emphasized the continuation of consultations between the two countries to reach agreement on future mechanisms for managing the Strait of Hormuz.

Japan's foreign minister expressed concern over escalating tensions in the region and stressed the need for continued consultations and diplomatic coordination between regional countries and relevant stakeholders with the aim of establishing security in the region and safe and free passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

The two foreign ministers also agreed to follow up on certain bilateral and consular issues.
