Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Indian President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, emphasizing the necessity of strategic planning to tap into existing capacities for expanding bilateral economic ties.

Tehran - BORNA - During the meeting, Pezeshkian addressed recent hostile actions by the United States and Israel against Iran over past months, stating that the Iranian people demonstrated resilient resistance against foreign coercion. Reaffirming Tehran's consistent stance in support of regional peace and security, the Iranian president stressed that Iran was not the aggressor in the conflict but stood firm in defending its sovereignty against external aggression.

Pezeshkian underscored the need for long-term strategic arrangements to facilitate economic growth and strengthen connectivity between Iran and India, calling for maximum utilization of shared economic opportunities.

Indian President Droupadi Murmu expressed India's commitment to expanding relations with Iran, noting that she advised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to actively pursue the deepening and expansion of bilateral ties.

Highlighting that the visit represents the first by an Iranian president to India in eight years, Murmu emphasized its significance for bilateral diplomatic relations.
