Iran will strike US bases with greater intensity if attacked: SNSC secretary
Tehran - BORNA - In an interview with Al Jazeera, Rezaei said that the US president’s assessments and calculations regarding Iran have been mistaken and that the war was instigated by Benjamin Netanyahu.
Rezaei stated that it is in Washington's best interest to accept Iran's conditions to exit the war, stressing that threats by Donald Trump will yield no results. "We are prepared for a decisive war," he added.
The top security official noted that Tehran is well aware of the US military's vulnerabilities and is better prepared than ever to counter American airstrikes. He added that Iran concluded it needed to revise its strategy toward Washington following the US withdrawal from the memorandum of understanding.
Rezaei also revealed that Iran recently conducted a test of an anti-ship missile in close proximity to a US aircraft carrier.
"We are serious about our defense, and if we come under attack, we will target US bases and Washington's interests in the region with greater intensity," he reiterated.
Discussing diplomatic channels, the SNSC secretary said consultations with Qatari and Pakistani mediators remain underway, with Tehran having outlined its terms for negotiations. He noted that the Qatari mediator has relayed Tehran’s conditions for ending the war to Washington, and Iran is awaiting the US president's response.
According to Rezaei, Tehran's conditions include an end to the war on all fronts, the release of frozen Iranian assets, and the lifting of the naval blockade.
Rezaei remarked that the actions of the United States and Israel provide Iran with grounds to withdraw from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). However, he noted that Iran has not yet taken the decision to withdraw, adding that the matter hinges on Washington's conduct.
He reiterated that Iran remains committed to the fatwa of the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution and has not altered its nuclear doctrine, though he added that future developments remain uncertain.
On regional affairs, Rezaei affirmed that Tehran seeks an end to the war between Saudi Arabia and Yemen, noting his belief that the Yemenis also favor reaching an agreement with Riyadh.
