Araghchi sharply criticizes European double standards on regional developments

Tehran - BORNA -  Araghchi, who is in New York to attend the annual session of the UN General Assembly, met and held talks with Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp on the sidelines of the session.

The two discussed bilateral Iran-Netherlands relations as well as regional and international issues.

Sharply criticizing European double standards on regional developments, particularly the silence and appeasement shown toward the aggressive actions and crimes committed by the US and the Israeli regime against Iran, Araghchi said European countries cannot claim to support the rule of law and human rights on the one hand while remaining indifferent to, or even supporting, the blatant US-Israeli military aggression against Iran on the other.

Recalling Iran's responsible approach in using diplomacy to remove US pretexts on the nuclear issue, Araghchi described repeated US violations of its commitments and its warmongering as the primary cause of the current insecurity in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the only way to restore peace and stability in the region is to halt America's unlawful and aggressive actions and to respect Iran's national rights and interests.

The Dutch foreign minister, for his part, stressed the importance of using diplomacy and outlined his country's views on current regional developments and on engagement between Iran and Europe.
