Iran’s naval power ensures security of shipping lines: Navy chief
Tehran - BORNA - In a message released on the occasion of World Maritime Day, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani highlighted the vital role of the sea in international trade, praising seafarers as the principal actors who keep this crucial economic cycle in motion regardless of geographical boundaries.
"For the great Islamic Iran, the sea represents a concept far beyond a mere communication route," Irani stated. "A country with extensive coastlines in the north and south, enjoying a privileged position adjacent to one of the world's most vital waterways, cannot remain indifferent to the fate and security of the sea."
Pointing to the Strait of Hormuz as a strategic part of Iran’s geography and a critical global energy and trade chokepoint, the commander noted that Iran's authority in this expanse serves as a backbone for safeguarding national interests and regional security.
"Islamic Iran’s naval power is not a tool to threaten nations or create insecurity; rather, it represents a responsible authority tasked with safeguarding maritime stability and preventing adventurism in the region," he stressed.
Rear Admiral Irani noted that this responsible authority was clearly demonstrated during the recent "Ramadan War" and in the face of brutal attacks by the US-Zionist regime. "By relying on its defense capabilities and maintaining a powerful presence in surrounding waters, the Islamic Republic of Iran has proven that it has forged a lasting bond between power and responsibility, as well as deterrence and peace," he added.
He further emphasized that the Iranian Navy, alongside other branches of the Armed Forces, fulfills a critical duty in protecting the country's maritime interests and securing communication and shipping lines by relying on indigenous knowledge, experience, and capabilities.
Concluding his message, Rear Admiral Irani extended his congratulations to all seafarers and maritime industry professionals on World Maritime Day, wishing them continued success under the prudent leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei.
