Tehran, Moscow sign judicial cooperation MoU

Tehran - BORNA - Mohammad Movahedi-Azad, Iran’s Prosecutor General, who traveled to Russia heading a high-ranking judicial delegation for the 24th meeting of Prosecutors General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), met with his Russian counterpart Igor Krasnov prior to the official commencement of the summit.

During the constructive meeting, the two sides emphasized the need to consolidate legal and judicial bonds in tandem with the strategic relations between the two countries.

Appreciating Russia’s hosting and the principled stances of its officials regarding recent developments, Movahedi-Azad stated: "The blatant aggressions and crimes of the Zionist regime and its backer, the United States, against the Iranian nation are a clear violation of all legal, international, and moral standards."

He added that despite 47 years of hostility, the enemies have failed to achieve their goals, which has instead resulted in greater cohesion and solidarity between the Iranian nation and government.

Highlighting the SCO meeting's decisive role in unifying the legal stances of member states in confronting terrorism and Western unilateralism, Movahedi-Azad noted: "Unfortunately, the US and the Zionist regime have taken international institutions hostage, even sanctioning judges of international courts. Therefore, the judicial convergence of member states can act as a solid barrier against these extrajudicial and hegemonic behaviors."

Welcoming the activation of joint working groups and the signing of a comprehensive judicial cooperation program, he emphasized the need to protect the rights of citizens from both nations. "Iran’s judiciary is fully prepared to take practical and effective steps in developing justice and protecting the rights of both parties' nationals by exchanging expert delegations, expediting the transfer of convicts, and resolving consular and student issues," he added.

For his part, the Russian Prosecutor General welcomed the Iranian delegation and praised the Islamic Republic's effective role in the SCO and BRICS, underscoring his institution's full readiness for the precise implementation of agreements and the expansion of mutual legal synergies.

At the end of the meeting, the MoU on joint cooperation was officially signed by the two officials.
