Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has condemned the violent crackdown by French security forces against demonstrators, calling on Paris to uphold fundamental human rights and basic freedoms during student-led protests.

Tehran - BORNA - Speaking to reporters, Baghaei criticized what he described as glaring double standards among French officials, noting that those who lecture others and label Iranian security operations against armed terrorists as rights violations display zero tolerance for peaceful assemblies at home and violently suppress protesters.

At the same time, the spokesman emphasized the necessity for demonstrators to avoid violent behavior, refrain from damaging public and private property, and avoid confrontations with law enforcement officers.

Pointing to reports published by French media outlets regarding the detention of more than 2,000 protesters and cases of police beatings, Baghaei urged authorities to investigate allegations of excessive force used by French security forces against demonstrators.
