Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized on Thursday that adversaries cannot easily isolate or besiege Iran due to its extensive regional connectivity, describing his visit to Turkmenistan as a significant opportunity to deepen relations with neighboring countries.

Tehran - BORNA - Speaking prior to his departure for Ashgabat, Pezeshkian stated that the visit takes place at the official invitation of his Turkmen counterpart and revolves around two primary agendas: participating as a special guest in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit, and holding talks with leaders of Caspian Sea littoral nations concerning the environmental challenges facing the shared body of water.

The president underscored that the Caspian Sea represents a vital asset for future generations, warning that environmental harm to it would trigger severe crises for all riparian states.

"Declining water inflows, the threat of drought, oil pollution, and overfishing pose grave risks to the regional ecosystem, and we will hold consultations during this trip on mitigating these challenges," Pezeshkian said.

Noting that relevant cabinet ministers had already arrived in Turkmenistan to conduct preliminary joint commission meetings, the Iranian president highlighted the broader diplomatic and economic significance of neighborhood diplomacy.

"They cannot besiege us so easily, as we share borders with 15 regional countries, and through each of these transit routes, we can maintain extensive economic, commercial, political, and security exchanges," he affirmed.

Pezeshkian added that such international gatherings provide practical avenues to improve bilateral regulations, trade mechanisms, and broader interactions, expressing hope that the planned talks will successfully achieve their intended objectives.
