Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has stated that Europe's inaction regarding the sanctioning of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the US threat to dismantle it "brick by brick" amounts to complicity in an attack on law and justice.

Tehran - BORNA - Reacting to new US sanctions against the ICC and threats to dismantle the tribunal, Baghaei wrote on the X social media platform: "Marco Rubio has threatened that if US allies do not rein in the ICC, Washington will dismantle it 'brick by brick'."

"Please remember the 1930s: the international order collapses not only as a result of aggression, but when the use of force is normalized and the world remains silent about it," he warned.

Addressing European nations, Baghaei questioned: "Europe must be asked: does standing by an ally mean defending international law and the post-WWII normative-institutional system, or joining them in dismantling them?!"

"If law and justice are sacrificed to appease an aggressive and bullying ally, talking about human rights and a rules-based international order will be nothing but an empty slogan," the Iranian diplomat concluded.
