IRGC: Supertanker defying Iran's Hormuz rules caught fire after mine strike
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said Saturday that a "violating" supertanker carrying more than two million barrels of crude oil struck a mine while attempting to cross the unauthorized route through the Strait of Hormuz, causing an explosion and a severe fire.
Tehran - BORNA - In a statement, the IRGC Navy said the tanker had switched off all of its positioning and radar systems in an attempt to pass through the strait "with deception and the support of the American smuggling and terrorist army."
The IRGC Navy also said the Strait of Hormuz is closed, adding that the fate of ships defying Iran's regulations in the strait is "to burn in the fire of trust in the American terrorist army."
