Parliament approves Mehrdad Akhlaghi as Iran's new Defense Minister
Members of the Iranian Parliament have granted a vote of confidence to Mehrdad Akhlaghi to take over as the Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics.
Tehran - BORNA - Lawmakers reviewed the credentials and proposed programs of Mehrdad Akhlaghi Ketabchi during a virtual open session on Sunday.
Following speeches by the supporters and opponents of the proposed defense minister, the representatives approved Akhlaghi's appointment to lead the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics.
Akhlaghi was elected as the defense minister, securing 237 votes in favor and 15 against, with no abstentions out of a total of 277 votes cast.
He succeeds the martyred Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, the former defense minister who was martyred during the 40-day war.
