By Zahra Vejdani , Tech Reporter | Borna News Agency: Indonesia’s ambassador to Iran announced that the country will host the World Conference on Creative Economy later this month, with representatives from more than 50 UN member states including Iran expected to attend.

Tehran - BORNA - Iran is expected to participate in the fifth World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE), which Indonesia will host in Jakarta from October 21 to 23 Indonesian Ambassador to Iran Rolliansyah Soemirat told Borna News Agency.

Speaking on the sidelines of Iran’s national Manowin Creative Industries event, Soemirat said Iran and Indonesia had consistently cooperated in international forums to advance the creative economy and that the time had come to strengthen their ties.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the exhibition myself, but for sure, it is an honor for me, representing the government and the 280 million people of Indonesia, to attend this event,” he said.

Indonesia to Host World Conference on Creative Economy

The fifth World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) is scheduled for October 21–23, 2026 in Jakarta. The conference will bring together policymakers, industry representatives and other stakeholders to discuss the role of the creative economy in global development.

“By the end of this month, Indonesia will be the host of the World Conference on the Creative Economy, to be attended by more than maybe 50 or 60 United Nations member countries, including Iran,” Soemirat said.

He added that he believed an Iranian delegation would be led by a vice president, although the composition of the delegation had not been independently confirmed.

Soemirat said that continuing cooperation with Iranian counterparts to advance the creative economy and related fields was among his priorities in Iran.

AI and Technology Transfer Among Potential Areas of Cooperation

Asked about Iran’s capabilities in the creative industries and opportunities for cooperation between Iranian and Indonesian companies, Soemirat said collaboration among developing countries, particularly those in the Global South, was becoming increasingly important.

He identified digital transformation, artificial intelligence, intellectual property cooperation and technology transfer as potential areas for closer collaboration.

“Many aspects, including digital transformation, artificial intelligence, intellectual property cooperation, as well as technology transfer will be important in shaping the new world that will be more beneficial for developing countries,” he said.

His remarks point to opportunities for cooperation that extend beyond the exchange of creative products and services to include emerging technologies, intellectual property and technical expertise.

Ambassador Calls for Greater Exchange of Experience

Soemirat said the expertise and experience of Iranian companies and government institutions could provide a basis for closer cooperation between the two countries.

“With all the expertise and experience that Iranian companies or not only companies but also perhaps the government have maybe we can also exchange our experiences and views on how we can benefit from each other’s experience,” he said.

He acknowledged that communication between the two countries in these areas had not yet been particularly intensive.
“Perhaps communications so far have not been really intensive so it is time for us to exchange views, exchange and compare notes with regard to advancing development issues in this area,” he said.

Asked whether closer cooperation could materialize in the near future, Soemirat responded affirmatively.

“yeah ,of course” he said.

He concluded by emphasizing the need for joint efforts to strengthen cooperation.

“I think this is the time for all of us to work together, enhancing cooperation in this aspect,” he added.

Closer cooperation in the creative economy could provide Iran and Indonesia with opportunities to expand cultural, economic and technological ties through experience-sharing and collaboration in emerging technologies.
