Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Tuesday that its air defenses downed a US MQ-9 drone over the Strait of Hormuz and that two "violating" tankers were set ablaze by mines planted in an unauthorized route south of the strait.

Tehran - BORNA - In Statement No. 19, the IRGC's public relations office said the drone was "the 54th MQ-9 of the terrorist US army" to be downed.

"Last night, the IRGC's air defense forces, monitoring the airspace over the Strait of Hormuz, identified an MQ-9 drone of the aggressor US army and struck it immediately, destroying and downing it," the statement said.

The IRGC said mines planted by its navy in the "illegal route" south of the Strait of Hormuz exploded, setting two violating tankers on fire and bringing them to a halt.

The full text of the statement:

"In the Name of God, the Breaker of the Tyrants

To the brave and risen nation of Islamic Iran —

Your steadfastness and resistance, you courageous and perceptive people, have humiliated and degraded the enemies and summoned the oppressed nations of the world to the field.

This is the greatest victory you achieved by sustaining your presence for more than 230 nights, and you have brought about the surge of nations across five continents.

Your fighting sons in the IRGC Navy and Aerospace Force, continuously monitoring the situation in the region, remain true to the pledge they have made to the Supreme Leader of the Revolution and to you, the loyal people, and by exercising sovereignty and management over the Strait of Hormuz, they continue to squeeze the throat of the world-devouring wolves.

In this regard, last night the IRGC's heroic air defense forces, while monitoring the airspace over the Strait of Hormuz, identified an MQ-9 drone of the aggressor US army and struck it immediately, destroying and downing it.

Also, with the explosion of mines planted by the seafarers of the IRGC Navy in the illegal route south of the Strait of Hormuz, two violating tankers were set on fire and halted.

The IRGC Navy once again warns that passage through the mined and illegal route will have no outcome other than the burning of the violators' assets, and if these mischiefs by the arrogant US regime continue, oil companies must pay a bigger price.

And victory comes only from God, the Almighty, the All-Wise."
