Qatar Says Mediation Efforts Continue to Prevent Regional Escalation
Tehran - BORNA - Al Thani emphasized that Qatar remained committed to diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing the regional situation from spiraling out of control.
“Our mediation efforts to prevent the situation from getting out of control are continuing,” he said.
The Qatari prime minister noted that the US administration remained committed to finding a solution even after the midterm elections.
“We cannot wait for a perfect agreement, but we hope to reach a good agreement,” he stated.
Addressing tensions involving Iran, Al Thani warned against allowing the situation to remain unresolved.
“The Iranian issue cannot be left unresolved, and we cannot tolerate another round of escalation,” he said.
He emphasized that addressing the concerns of all parties was essential to establishing a sustainable regional understanding.
“We believe the best way to bring all parties in the region together is to address each side's concerns,” he added.
Qatar Calls for Diplomacy, Warns Against Extremist Voices
The Qatari prime minister stressed that the latest round of regional tensions had produced no positive outcomes.
“The recent round of escalation has brought nothing good to the region,” he said.
Al Thani also highlighted Doha's extensive diplomatic contacts aimed at facilitating an agreement.
“As part of efforts to reach an agreement, I have held telephone conversations with all foreign ministers in our region,” he stated.
He warned against allowing hardline positions to undermine diplomatic negotiations.
“We must not listen to extremist voices seeking to hold the negotiation process hostage,” he stressed.
Expressing optimism about the prospects for diplomacy, Al Thani said Qatar had already made significant progress in its mediation efforts.
“We have achieved major successes, and I believe we can reach an agreement,” he added.
Qatari Prime Minister Highlights Continued Instability in Lebanon and Gaza
Al Thani also addressed the security situation in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, expressing concern over continued violence despite ceasefire agreements.
“In Lebanon, we are witnessing developments following the ceasefire, as shelling continues,” he said.
He also pointed to the humanitarian situation in Gaza, stating that more than 1,000 people had been killed since the ceasefire.
“Since October 7, despite our mediation efforts, we have witnessed nothing but instability in the region,” the Qatari prime minister said.
Qatar Denies Reports of Failed Iran-US Agreement
The remarks came after Qatar's International Media Office denied reports circulating on social media that attributed statements to Al Thani suggesting that the United States and Iran had failed to reach an agreement.
In a statement, the office rejected the reports as inaccurate.
“Reports circulating on social media claiming that the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar stated that the United States and Iran had failed to reach an agreement are completely false and misleading,” the statement said.
