Israel Strikes Hamas Leadership Meeting in Doha: Multiple Explosions Reported
Tehran - BORNA - According to Reuters, several loud explosions were heard in the Katara district of Doha, with smoke rising over the area. Quds News Network reported that more than ten consecutive blasts shook the city.
Axios, citing an Israeli official, said the explosions were part of an operation aimed at assassinating Hamas leaders. In a joint statement, the Israeli army and the Shin Bet intelligence agency confirmed that the air force had launched “a precise strike against the leadership of Hamas.”
A senior Hamas source told Al Jazeera that the attack targeted the group’s negotiating delegation while it was holding a meeting in Doha. The source added that the delegation had been discussing U.S. President Donald Trump’s ceasefire proposal at the time.
Israeli media reported that Tel Aviv had informed the United States prior to the strike. Channel 15 quoted an Israeli official as saying the attack was carried out with full consensus between Israel’s political and security establishments. Channel 14, meanwhile, reported that the intended targets included senior Hamas figures Khalil al-Hayya and Zaher Jabarin.
Al Arabi TV, citing informed sources, said the Hamas delegation survived the assassination attempt. Channel 11 of the Israeli army further quoted security officials as saying that “the United States gave us full cover for the strike against Hamas in Qatar.”
