In the 65kg class with 34 competitors, Amouzad received a first-round bye. He will face Ikramjan Khadji Muradov of Kyrgyzstan in his opening match. If successful, he will meet the winner of Real Woods (USA) vs. Maxim Sacultan (Moldova). Olympic champion Kaiki Yamaguchi of Japan is on the opposite side of the bracket and could only face Amouzad in the final.

In the 97kg category with 29 participants, Azarpira opens against Gan Khuyag Ganbaatar of Mongolia. If victorious, he will face either Radu Lefter of Moldova or Ahmed Magamaev of Bulgaria. World and Olympic champion Akhmed Tazhudinov of Bahrain is in the same bracket but would not face Azarpira until the semifinals. Magomedkhan Magomedov of Azerbaijan is also in Azarpira’s group, raising the possibility of a quarterfinal clash with the Iranian wrestler.
