Kowsari: Iran Prepared to Withdraw from NPT / Any Threat to Our Ships Will Be Met with a Decisive Response
Esmaeil Kowsari, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said in an exclusive interview with Borna that Iran is prepared to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) if Western countries activate the so-called snapback mechanism, stressing that “it will ultimately be the Western powers who must chase after us, not the other way around.”

Tehran - BORNA - Speaking on the European E3's attempts to trigger snapback sanctions, Kowsari noted: “U.S. and European sanctions against Iran have already reached such an extent that there is hardly anything new left to add to their lists. If fresh measures are introduced, the priority must be to stop profiteers from destabilizing the domestic market.”

He criticized Europe’s failure to uphold its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), adding: “The United States tore up the nuclear deal and walked away from its international obligations, while the three European countries also failed to deliver on their promises. Iran, in contrast, abided by its obligations and swiftly fulfilled the steps it was required to take.”

Kowsari pointed to what he described as the “recent defeats” of the U.S. and Israel in the region, particularly in the 12-day war with Iran, arguing that Western governments are now resorting to psychological warfare:
“They seek to create unrest in our society, but our people must remain aware that these measures, like those before them, cannot be easily implemented.”

On the issue of maritime security, Kowsari warned against hostile actions targeting Iranian shipping: “If our vessels are threatened in international waters, we will undoubtedly deliver an appropriate and firm response. This is just one of the many plots designed against Iran, but by the grace of God, we have always been able to strike back with strength.”

Concluding the interview, he reiterated Parliament’s stance should snapback be enforced: “Our readiness to exit the NPT is clear. Should this step become necessary, it is the Western countries who will be compelled to follow our lead.”
