Araghchi arrives to China

Tehran - BORNA - Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, arrived in China on Monday to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Ministerial Meeting.

In his press conference today, Esmail Baghaei, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, said in response to a question about the goals of the Foreign Minister's visit to China and the interactions between the two countries: "We have friendly relations with China."

Stating that "the Foreign Minister has traveled to China to attend the Shanghai Foreign Ministerial Meeting," he said: "The agenda of this meeting, in addition to several technical and expert issues, is to prepare the ground for holding the Shanghai Summit."

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman added: "According to the plan, the Foreign Minister will meet and consult with his Chinese counterpart and other foreign ministers participating in this meeting."

The Iranian diplomatic spokesman also announced that Araghchi will meet with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting.
