Moscow: NATO Planning Naval Blockade of Russia

Tehran - BORNA - Nikolay Korchunov, Russia’s Ambassador to Norway, told the RIA Novosti news agency that NATO members, including Norway, are effectively turning the Baltic and Arctic regions into a "garrison-style" environment through operations such as Baltic Sentry, Eastern Sentry, and Arctic Sentry. He added that these actions restrict the freedom of navigation in violation of international law.

In recent years, Russia has reported unprecedented NATO activity and a buildup of forces near its western borders. The Kremlin has maintained that while Russia does not threaten any nation, it will not ignore actions that are potentially dangerous to its national interests.

Speaking on Saturday, the Russian Ambassador in Oslo further stated that the military preparations of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark pose a direct threat to Russia’s national security, necessitating countermeasures.

"Oslo, Stockholm, and Helsinki are cooperating to increase their military mobility by developing transport and logistics corridors from West to East, as well as utilizing military bases and other infrastructure," Korchunov told RIA Novosti.

The head of the Russian diplomatic mission noted that these and other military preparations by NATO countries on the "Northern Front"—which are overtly directed against Russia—escalate tensions and constitute a direct threat to Russian national security. He emphasized that Moscow is compelled to take "military-technical" countermeasures in response.
