Qalibaf to Attend Global Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit in Geneva
Tehran – BORNA – Abolfazl Amouei said that a parliamentary delegation from Iran will attend the conference in Geneva, which is the highest-level meeting of parliaments worldwide, held every five years in cooperation with the United Nations.
He explained that the World Conference of Speakers of Parliament plays a significant role in strengthening the parliamentary dimension of global governance, promoting multilateralism, fostering inter-parliamentary dialogue, and translating international commitments into national action. The 6th conference will be held under the official theme: “Parliamentary cooperation and multilateralism in a turbulent world: Peace, justice, and strong institutions for all.”
Providing further details, Amouei stated: "This edition of the conference, hosted at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, will be attended by 112 parliamentary delegations, of which 96 will be led by Speakers of Parliament. The Iranian delegation will be headed by the Speaker himself, accompanied by several MPs."
Qalibaf is scheduled to deliver a speech at the General Assembly of the summit and hold bilateral meetings with several of his counterparts on the sidelines.
Amouei added: "This conference marks the first global gathering at the level of parliamentary speakers following the 12-day military aggression by the Zionist regime against Iran, and is therefore of strategic significance given its security implications for the region and beyond. With the intensifying crisis in Gaza, including famine and the ongoing genocide of Palestinians, it is anticipated that parliamentarians from around the world will give this issue special attention."
