Baghaei: Key Operational Proposals Raised in Talks; Both Sides Pursuing Negotiations Seriously
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said significant and practical initiatives were presented during the third round of Iran–U.S. negotiations, adding that both sides are seriously engaged in the process.

Tehran - BORNA - Esmail Baghaei stated that since Thursday morning, Iran and the United States had been engaged in “very intensive and serious” negotiations, which lasted about three hours in the presence of Oman’s foreign minister and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

He noted that both delegations left the venue approximately an hour earlier and that talks are expected to resume around 6:00 p.m. local time.

Baghaei said both sides required consultations with their respective capitals. “In the areas of the nuclear issue and sanctions relief, important and operational proposals and initiatives were raised, and both delegations are pursuing the work with seriousness,” he added.

The spokesperson emphasized that the subject of the negotiations between Iran and the United States is the nuclear issue, stressing that discussions on the nuclear file cannot take place without addressing Iran’s rights to benefit from peaceful nuclear energy.

Referring to sanctions, Baghaei underlined that the Iranian people have been significantly harmed by them. “In any agreement or understanding, the central component must be the lifting of sanctions,” he said.

In response to a question about what he described as contradictory remarks from some U.S. officials and media outlets, Baghaei said Iran’s focus remains on achieving results. “Iran’s negotiating conduct is completely clear. We have been consistent and steadfast, and our positions have aligned with what we have stated publicly. We have not seen the same consistency on the other side,” he said.

He nevertheless described Thursday’s discussions as very serious and expressed hope that the afternoon session would produce further practical and implementable proposals in the areas of sanctions relief and the nuclear issue.

Addressing media speculation about a potential agreement between Iran and the United States, Baghaei said it is natural for regional and international media and influential circles to closely monitor the talks and attempt to shape narratives. “What has been reported so far has largely been speculation—a mix of conjecture and conclusions drawn from previous negotiation patterns. None of it can be confirmed,” he stated.

Baghaei concluded by saying that Iran remains focused on the practical mandate it has been given and is working to secure the country’s national interests.
