Lavrov Stresses Immediate Halt to Attacks on Iran in Call with Araghchi
Russia’s Foreign Minister emphasized the need for an immediate cessation of attacks against Iran during a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart.

Tehran - BORNA - According to a statement issued Saturday evening by the Russian Foreign Ministry, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, held a phone call with Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation. The call was initiated by the Iranian side.

During the conversation, Araghchi provided a report on the measures taken by Iran’s leadership to confront the military aggression by the United States and Israel, actions which he said have once again obstructed negotiations aimed at a peaceful resolution of issues related to Iran’s nuclear program.

He also informed his Russian counterpart of plans to convene an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement, Lavrov strongly condemned what he described as the “unprovoked armed attack” by the United States and Israel against Iran, carried out “in violation of the principles and norms of international law and with disregard for the grave consequences for regional and global stability and security.”

Lavrov stressed the necessity of an immediate halt to the attacks against Iran and underscored the importance of returning the situation to a political and diplomatic track.

He further noted that Russia stands ready, including within the United Nations Security Council, to contribute to the search for peaceful solutions based on international law, mutual respect, and a balance of interests.

According to a separate report by Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Araghchi, in the call held this afternoon, elaborated on the latest developments and emphasized the importance of decisive action by the international community—particularly the United Nations Security Council—to stop the acts of aggression and hold the perpetrators accountable.

Referring to attacks on various Iranian cities, including this morning’s missile strike on a school in Minab that resulted in the martyrdom of at least 51 innocent schoolgirls, Araghchi described the military aggression as a flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and a clear crime against international peace and security. He reiterated Iran’s inherent right to defend the country with full capacity.

Lavrov also expressed support for the immediate convening of a United Nations Security Council session to address the situation.
