Grossi: Nuclear Sites or Nearby Areas Must Never Be Under Attack
Tehran - BORNA -The IAEA announced in a statement that Iran has informed the Agency of a projectile strike near the Bushehr nuclear facility on Saturday morning, marking the fourth such incident in recent weeks.
The statement further noted: "Iran also informed the Agency that a member of the site’s physical protection staff was killed by shrapnel from the projectile, and a building on-site was affected by the blast wave and shrapnel; however, no increase in radiation levels has been reported."
According to the announcement, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi expressed his deep concern regarding the reported incident, asserting that nuclear power plant sites or their nearby areas must never be attacked. He pointed out that auxiliary site buildings may contain vital safety equipment.
The statement added: "Reiterating the call for maximum military restraint to avoid the risk of a nuclear accident, Grossi once again emphasized the paramount importance of adhering to the 'Seven Pillars' for ensuring nuclear safety and security during a conflict."
