Zarif: Iran Shows Sincerity in Islamabad Talks Despite U.S. ‘Record of Betrayal’
Tehran - BORNA - Zarif shared his remarks on X (formerly Twitter) as high-level delegations from Iran and the United States prepared for their first direct diplomatic encounter since the outbreak of hostilities on February 28.
"Iran has once again shown its seriousness—despite repeated US betrayals—by sending its most credible and capable team to Islamabad," Zarif wrote.
He further addressed U.S. President Donald Trump, suggesting that the only way for the administration to exit the current crisis is to move beyond rhetoric. "Let’s hope that beyond the bluster, Trump sees the only way out of his self-made quagmire: stop listening to the wanted and their accomplices. Make a deal while he still can," the former top diplomat added.
The remarks come as Islamabad hosts the first round of talks facilitated by Pakistani mediation following the announcement of a two-week ceasefire. This diplomatic mission is the first of its kind since the U.S. and the Zionist regime launched their military aggression against Iran over 40 days ago.
Observers view the inclusion of senior political, military, and economic officials in the Iranian delegation as a sign of Tehran's "integrated diplomacy," while maintaining the warning that any failure in the talks could lead to a resumption of regional conflict.
