Orthodox Easter Ceasefire Begins Between Russia and Ukraine
A temporary ceasefire announced by the Russian President to mark the Orthodox Easter holiday officially took effect on Saturday afternoon, with Ukraine also pledging to respect the truce.

Tehran - BORNA - The ceasefire initiated by Vladimir Putin began at 16:00 Moscow time (13:00 GMT) on April 11 and is scheduled to continue until the end of April 12.

The proposal for a cessation of hostilities during the religious holiday was welcomed by the Russian Orthodox Church. President Putin had called for the brief truce earlier on Thursday to allow civilians and soldiers to observe the Easter festivities.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Kyiv would also adhere to the ceasefire. Writing on the social media platform X, Zelenskyy stated: "Ukraine will abide by the ceasefire and will respond in a similar manner."

International observers hope this brief pause in the conflict will provide a humanitarian window for civilians in affected areas, despite the ongoing tensions along the front lines.
