House Democrats are set to introduce five articles of impeachment against the U.S. Secretary of Defense, accusing him of "war crimes related to the war with Iran, abuse of power, and mismanagement of the Department of Defense."

Tehran - BORNA - Axios reported after obtaining a copy of the documents that Representative Yassamin Ansari, a Democrat from Arizona and the first Iranian-American woman elected to Congress, will lead the introduction of the impeachment articles.

Eight Democrats are sponsoring the resolution, which The Hill predicts has a "low" chance of success. Sponsors include Steve Cohen (TN), Jasmine Crockett (TX), Nikema Williams (GA), Sarah McBride (DE), Brittany Pettersen (CO), Dina Titus (NV), Dave Min (CA), and Shri Thanedar (MI).

Ansari announced several days ago that she was moving forward with the impeachment plan. While the effort faces significant hurdles in the Republican-controlled House, she accused Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth of "complicity" in President Trump's "devastating and illegal war" against Iran.

The first article accuses Hegseth of violating his oath of office by overseeing an "unauthorized war against Iran and recklessly endangering U.S. service members." The resolution further charges the Secretary with war crimes by targeting civilians and violating the laws of armed conflict, followed by the mismanagement of sensitive intelligence.

A report by the U.S. Office of the Inspector General stated that Hegseth endangered troop security and violated department policies. However, the Department of Defense claimed the report constituted a "full exoneration" of Hegseth.

Ansari’s impeachment resolution also accuses Hegseth of obstructing Congress’s oversight responsibilities, including allegations of withholding information related to military actions in Venezuela and Iran, among other military theaters.

On February 28, 2026, while indirect talks with the American side were ongoing, the United States and the Zionist regime launched an act of aggression against the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran. In response to this violation of its sovereignty and in self-defense, Iran conducted "Operation True Promise 4," targeting U.S. bases in the region and specific targets within the occupied territories.
