Ulyanov: US Did Not Expect Resilience from Iranian Negotiators

Tehran - BORNA - Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s representative to international organizations in Vienna, wrote on the X social media platform on Monday evening: "Washington did not expect the Iranians to be such tough negotiators."

Criticizing the U.S. approach and its demands, the Russian envoy added: "The United States must reconsider certain elements of its position, particularly regarding nuclear issues, to align them with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). This would pave the way for a peace agreement."

Acting as a mediator in recent weeks, Pakistan attempted to organize another round of negotiations during the two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States, following the inconclusive first round on April 12. However, the U.S. derailed these talks by proposing excessive demands and imposing a maritime blockade. In response, Iranian officials declared that they are not willing to negotiate under an atmosphere of threats.
