Russian Envoy to Iran: We Will Build a New Nuclear Power Plant in Iran
Tehran - BORNA - Alexey Dedov, the Russian Ambassador to Iran, stated on Saturday afternoon in an interview: Representatives of the Iranian and Russian nuclear industries will soon hold talks in Moscow, during which the construction of the new "Hormoz" nuclear power plant in the Islamic Republic of Iran will be discussed.
Stating that this in-person meeting of the relevant representatives will take place in late June or early July of this year in Moscow, the Russian Ambassador said: "Regarding the construction of the Hormoz nuclear power plant, Russian and Iranian companies are continuing consultations and negotiations to agree on the legal framework of this promising project, and the agenda of this meeting will include discussions on this project."
TASS news agency reported: On September 26, 2025, Iran and Russia signed a $25 billion contract for the construction of the Hormoz nuclear power plant, the construction of which had been ordered in February 2024 by the late Iranian President, Martyr Ebrahim Raisi. The power plant will consist of four power units with a total capacity of 5,000 megawatts and will be located near the cities of Minab and Sirik in Iran's Hormozgan province.
Emphasizing that Russian companies are ready to assist Iran in reconstructing civilian infrastructure damaged or destroyed during the US and Zionist war against Iran, Alexey Dedov added: "Russian industrial and construction companies, design and engineering institutes, and scientific and technological centers possess unique technologies, capabilities, and experiences in various fields. Upon receiving official requests and proposals from our Iranian partners, we are ready to promptly begin reviewing them and present concrete proposals for cooperation."
Noting that bilateral trade between Tehran and Moscow has increased even during the war against Iran, the Russian diplomat added: "Between January and April 2026, despite disruptions in some supply chains, the volume of bilateral trade still showed a moderate growth of 2 percent. Despite the complex geopolitical situation in the region, economic and trade cooperation between Russia and Iran continues to develop actively."
Referring to the increased efficiency of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), he stated: "In the first four months of 2026, the export of goods from Russia to Iran increased by more than 56 percent, and the total volume of cargo transported along this route reached nearly 2.2 million tons, which is 87 percent higher than the previous year."
