Ghalibaf in meeting with Chinese NPC Vice Chairman: We will not allow any US interference in the Strait of Hormuz

Tehran - BORNA - He Wei, Vice Chairman of China's National People's Congress, who traveled to Iran to attend the funeral ceremony of the martyred leader, met with Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran's Parliament Speaker, on Friday.

Ghalibaf welcomed the Chinese delegation and thanked them for attending the tribute ceremony, also expressing appreciation for political and economic cooperation between the two countries.

He stated that upgrading strategic relations between Iran and China is expected, adding that Iran's and China's positions on regional issues have evolved, and he hoped for enhanced ties. "Without a doubt, upgrading Iran-China relations will be effective in reducing global tensions."

Ghalibaf noted that parliamentary relations between the two countries are far from an optimal level and can be expanded. He stressed the need for closer ties between Iran and China given the recent war and rapidly unfolding events.

The Parliament Speaker said that the US pursues unilateralism globally, and close coordination between Iran and China in political and economic spheres is crucial for reducing tensions. "Coordination in the Persian Gulf and Southwest Asia is very important."

Ghalibaf emphasized: "We have resolved transit issues in the Strait of Hormuz for Chinese vessels – a country that stood by us during difficult days. I say clearly that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not allow any US interference in the Strait of Hormuz. During our recent visit to Oman, we agreed, based on Clause 5 of the memorandum, to regulate transit arrangements. We are determined on this matter and will certainly consult with Persian Gulf littoral states."

The Parliament Speaker stated that Israel is undoubtedly seeking to disrupt the Iran-US memorandum, but Iran's deterrent power in the region will prevent a new war. "We must reduce tensions through regular tactics and precise political measures."

He Wei, the Chinese official, expressed his condolences and said: "I agree with your views. The friendship between China and Iran is a long-standing one. We will further develop bilateral relations. This year marks the 55th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between Iran and China and the 10th anniversary of their strategic partnership. We are ready to seize this opportunity to expand bilateral ties."
