Mecca Agreement applicable to other regional nations, Pakistan foreign minister says

Tehran - BORNA - Writing on the social media platform X, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated that the primary objective of the pact is to further reinforce ongoing efforts toward peace, stability, and prosperity across the broader region.

According to a report by Anadolu Agency, the defense agreement was officially signed by the three nations on Friday in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Collective defense mechanism and UN Charter alignment

Dar noted that the framework is applicable to other regional countries willing to uphold foundational principles and address challenges through mutual respect, cooperation, and peaceful means.

Reiterating key provisions of the accord, the senior diplomat emphasized that under the agreement, any external armed attack against one member state will be considered an attack against all three, in alignment with the inherent right of individual and collective self-defense recognized under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

Preserving existing alliances and promoting regional stability

Dar clarified that the trilateral arrangement does not invalidate or replace any existing bilateral or multilateral treaties concluded between the signatory countries or with other states and international organizations.

He characterized the Mecca Agreement as the "culmination of years of discussions and coordination, driven by a shared desire to deepen strategic cooperation in addressing diverse peace and security challenges, and advancing regional peace, stability, and prosperity."

The foreign minister added that the pact aligns with the core pillars of Pakistan's foreign policy, affirming that Islamabad looks forward to continuing close collaboration with all brotherly nations in the region to achieve lasting stability.

"We remain committed to advancing the cause of peaceful conflict resolution and building a more secure, stable, and prosperous future for our people," Dar stated.
