Major General Mohsen Rezaei has been appointed as the new Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, replacing Mohammad Baqer Zolghadr, a senior presidential official announced on Sunday.

Tehran - BORNA - Seyyed Mehdi Tabatabaei, Deputy for Communications and Information at the President’s Office, confirmed the appointment in a post on his official account on X.

The political development follows decrees issued earlier by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei regarding key security and advisory positions.

In one decree, the Supreme Leader appointed Rezaei as his official representative to the Supreme National Security Council, citing his extensive military leadership—notably as Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) during the eight-year Sacred Defense—as well as his executive background in state bodies as primary factors for his selection.

Concurrently, Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei appointed the outgoing SNSC Secretary, Mohammad Baqer Zolghadr, as his political advisor, expressing appreciation for his dedicated efforts.

The text of the official decree appointing Dr. Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr as Political Advisor to the Supreme Leader reads as follows:

"In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

Dear Brother, Mr. Mohammad Baqer Zolghadr,

In light of your valuable experience, I hereby appoint you as my Political Advisor.

I hope that under the guidance of our Lord, Hazrat Baqiyatullah al-A'zam (may God hasten his noble appearance), you will be successful and supported in fulfilling this responsibility and in advancing the ideals of the Islamic Revolution.

Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei"
