From 1953 coup to Minab school attack: Iran lists 19 US crimes, questions Trump's compensation claim

Tehran - BORNA - The embassy wrote on X that US policies, actions, and crimes against Iran over the past century have directly and indirectly led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iranians.

The list includes: US occupation and military presence in Iran (1942-1945); the August 1953 coup that overthrew Iran's elected government; political, security, and military support for the Shah's regime (1953-1979); freezing Iranian assets and imposing sanctions (1979); cutting diplomatic ties (1980); the US military operation in Iran (Tabas disaster, 1980); support for Saddam during the war against Iran (1980-1988); shooting down Iran Air Flight 655, killing 290 people (1988); comprehensive economic and trade sanctions (1995); the Iran-Libya Sanctions Act (1996); escalation of nuclear and financial sanctions (2006-2012); severe sanctions on Iran's central bank and oil sector (2012); the US withdrawal from the JCPOA and reimposition of sanctions (2018); the "maximum pressure" campaign (2018-2020); the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad (2020); the expansion of economic and oil sanctions (2020-2024); the escalation of pressure and military attacks (2025-2026); the martyrdom of Iran's Supreme Leader (2025-2026); and the attack on the Minab elementary school, killing a large number of students (2025-2026).

The embassy concluded: "With these actions and crimes, who should pay reparations? Iran, which has always defended itself, or the US, which has repeatedly harmed Iran?"
