The second day of the Chengdu World Games saw two of Iran’s karatekas advance to the bronze medal matches.

Tehran - BORNA - In the women’s -61kg kumite, Atousa Golshadnezhad opened her campaign with a 2-1 victory over Egypt before defeating France 3-0 in her second bout. She continued her winning run with a 3-2 win over Kazakhstan to reach the semifinals, where she fell 3-2 to Japan. Golshadnezhad will now face another Egyptian opponent for the bronze medal.

In the men’s division, Saleh Abazari overcame his American opponent 3-2, recording one win, one draw, and one loss in the group stage to advance. In the semifinals, Abazari was defeated by Ukraine and will also compete for bronze.

In wushu’s taolu events, Helia Asadian, who placed fourth in “Nan Dao” (9.653) on Friday, scored 9.690 in “Nan Quan” to place sixth in that form. Her combined score of 19.343 secured her fifth place overall.

Reflecting on his gold medal performance earlier in the Games, Shahin Bani Talebi said: “I’m happy to have won gold. I went through tough training and, thank God, I was able to repay all that effort with this medal. I dedicate it to the dear people of my country.”

With Golshadnezhad and Abazari both set to fight for bronze, Iran’s delegation in Chengdu continues to demonstrate strong performances across multiple disciplines, raising hopes for further podium finishes in the coming days of the Games.
