Iran's transport minister announced that the Chabahar-Zahedan railway will be completed within three months, adding that the port can support Tajikistan's logistics hub for access to open waters.

Tehran - BORNA - Farzaneh Sadegh met with Tajikistan's transport and energy ministers in Dushanbe on Tuesday to discuss expanding rail, road, air, port, and logistics cooperation between the two countries.

Sadegh said track-laying on the Chabahar-Zahedan railway has been completed and the line will be operational within three months. She said Chabahar can contribute to Tajikistan's logistics hub for access to open waters, and expressed Iran's readiness to welcome Tajik investment in Chabahar port and the Aprin dry port.

She also called for the removal of road transport obstacles and an increase in flights between the two countries, urging that agreements be compiled into a joint document and pursued through an executive committee.

Tajikistan's Saman Air, which had suspended its flights to Iran, requested to resume operations. Iran's Civil Aviation Organization chief promised to address the obstacles. Under a new bilateral agreement, up to 23 weekly flights are permitted between the two countries. Currently, one Iranian airline is operating the route.
