IRGC: US leaders must answer for record of attacks on weddings
Tehran - BORNA - In its ninth statement, the IRGC referred to a recent US airstrike on an engagement celebration in Kuhestak, Sirik County, in Iran’s southern Hormozgan Province, saying the attack turned a family celebration into mourning.
According to the statement, nearly 70 people were killed or wounded in the strike, including four fatalities, while seven of the injured were reported to be in critical condition.
The IRGC said that following widespread reactions from the public, media outlets and figures around the world, including some US media, American military officials had sought to deny that civilians were deliberately targeted.
It rejected those denials and argued that attacks on civilians had repeatedly occurred in previous US military operations.
The IRGC listed a series of incidents it attributed to the United States or US-backed forces, including:
July 1, 2002: more than 100 people killed in the bombing of a wedding in Kakrak village, Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan.
Sept. 18, 2003: more than five people killed or injured in an attack on a wedding in Fallujah, Iraq.
May 19, 2004: 42 people killed in the bombing of a wedding in Makr al-Deeb village in Iraq’s Anbar Province.
Oct. 8, 2004: 13 people, including the groom, killed in the bombing of a wedding in Fallujah.
July 6, 2008: 47 people, including the bride, killed in an attack on a wedding in Deh Bala, Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan.
November 2008: 37 people, including 23 children, killed in the bombing of a wedding in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
June 2012: 18 people, including nine children, killed in an attack on a wedding in Logar Province, Afghanistan.
Sept. 28, 2015: 131 women and children killed in a strike on a wedding in Wahijah, Taiz Province, Yemen, which the IRGC attributed to the US-backed coalition.
Sept. 1, 2026: 70 people killed or wounded in the bombing of a wedding in Kuhestak, Sirik County, Hormozgan Province, Iran.
“US leaders, who instead of apologizing have once again resorted to falsehoods and, as in the cases of Minab, Lamerd and Qeshm, have evaded accountability, should also answer global public opinion over their dark record of attacks on weddings in different countries,” the statement said.
“Were all of these incidents accidental and the result of mistakes?” it added.
The IRGC also said it had retaliated against CENTCOM personnel following the latest strike.
It warned that the continuation of such actions would deepen public anger over US military operations and concluded by reiterating that Iran would continue to defend itself against attacks.
