Sardasht

July 7, 1988, marks one of the darkest chapters in the eight-year imposed war of Iraq against Iran. On that day, the border city of Sardasht in West Azerbaijan province was targeted by chemical bombardment by the Iraqi Baathist regime, becoming the first city in the world after World War II to have its civilian population extensively struck with chemical weapons.
