A senior Iranian diplomat has condemned the “crimes and humanitarian crisis” unfolding in the Sudanese city of El Fasher, calling for urgent international action to address the worsening situation in North Darfur.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Iran is deeply concerned about the “tragic” killing of innocent civilians in Sudan amid a horrifying escalation of conflict in the North African country.

Iran has reiterated continued support for Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity as rampant violence retains its grip on the North African nation.

In a strongly-worded statement from Tehran, Sudan’s official diplomatic channels asserted that the city of Al-Fasher represents one of the most tragic chapters in modern Sudanese history, demanding immediate and effective action from the international community to halt the bloodshed and hostilities.

The Sudanese ambassador to Iran warned that crimes committed in the city of Al Fasher are no less than those taking place in Gaza, criticizing the international community for ignoring the mass killings of civilians by rebel forces in Sudan.

Iran's Foreign Ministry has condemned a recent drone attack against a mosque in the city of Al-Fashir, Sudan, which killed and injured scores of innocent Sudanese worshippers.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei expressed sympathy with Sudan after deadly floods and landslides claimed hundreds of lives, particularly in Marrah Mountains, Darfur.
