Sudan Envoy to Tehran Declares Al-Fasher a 'Tragic Page in History,' Demands Global Action Against RSF Atrocities
In a strongly-worded statement from Tehran, Sudan’s official diplomatic channels asserted that the city of Al-Fasher represents one of the most tragic chapters in modern Sudanese history, demanding immediate and effective action from the international community to halt the bloodshed and hostilities.

Tehran - BORNA- The city of Al-Fasher in Darfur has become a focal point of global attention following a serious escalation in the Sudanese crisis, entering a new phase of violence and displacement.

Escalation and Documented Atrocities in Al-Fasher

Field reports and human rights organizations indicate a prolonged siege, extensive attacks with drones and artillery, and the systematic killing and harassment of civilians, including women, children, and the elderly. Medical and human rights bodies have reported the use of siege and food deprivation as a tool to pressure residents and create a situation approaching "genocide." Recent statistics suggest hundreds to thousands have been killed, with widespread displacement.

The structural violence escalated dramatically after the withdrawal of Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) from key bases in the area in October 2025. Reports from the Sudan Doctors Network (SDN) and other sources indicate that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has been responsible for summary executions, mass killings—including the alleged targeting of patients and staff inside the Saudi Hospital—and sexual violence against women and girls. Satellite imagery analysis by research labs has corroborated reports of mass killing sites near RSF vehicle formations.

The UN Security Council (UNSC) previously issued Resolution 2736 in June 2024, demanding the lifting of the siege on Al-Fasher and the provision of humanitarian access to civilians, but its full implementation continues to face serious obstacles.

On the other hand, international accusations against foreign actors have intensified: the Sudanese government has raised multiple claims regarding the armed and logistical support of certain regional and international parties for the RSF. Cases have been filed in international courts to pursue accountability; these accusations have also been covered by some international media and reports, and the accused countries have issued denying responses.

Iran Condemns Destruction of Infrastructure and Killing of People

On Tuesday, October 28th, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei made a media statement, expressing concern over the armed clashes in Al-Fasher, the center of North Darfur state, and condemned the destruction of infrastructure and the killing of innocent people in the city. The Foreign Ministry Spokesman warned against certain dangerous movements aiming for the re-disintegration of Sudan and emphasized the necessity of respecting Sudan's national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Allegations of External Support and Weapon Supply to RSF

Concurrent with the RSF’s incursion into Al-Fasher, the American media outlet The Wall Street Journal also reported that the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which is said to support these militias in Sudan, is supplying the group with weaponry. U.S. intelligence services reported in October that the UAE had increased the supply of drones and other weapon systems to the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces.

The British media outlet Middle East Eye also reported in January 2024 that the UAE was supplying arms to the RSF through a complex network of supply lines and alliances that pass through Libya, Chad, Uganda, and the separated regions of Somalia.

Sudan Demands Recognition of RSF as a Terrorist Organization

Ambassador Abdulaziz Hassan Saleh, Sudan's diplomatic representative in Tehran, stated that the ongoing tragedy is a direct result of the RSF’s actions.

Ambassador Saleh affirmed that the government has collected documents and evidence demonstrating the arms and logistical support of certain foreign actors for the rebel forces, which has been presented to international bodies. He demanded that these groups be officially recognized as terrorist organizations.

He explained that the RSF first acted by besieging the city and "deliberately starving the residents in order to weaken and prepare the situation," before engaging in organized massacres that have dimensions on the level of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

Ambassador Saleh criticized the international community’s reaction: "Unfortunately, the silence or slow reaction of parts of the international community and regional institutions played a significant role in encouraging these rebel forces."

The Final Goal: Restoring Security and Prosecuting Backers

Saleh emphasized that the army and the government’s legal supporters will continue their duty to preserve the country's unity and will use all legitimate means to defeat these rebel groups. He stressed that the request for international prosecution also includes pursuing the backers, financiers, and supporters of these forces, whether governments, individuals, or entities, inside and outside Sudan.

The Sudanese diplomat concluded with a final call to international communities, human rights organizations, and the media to fulfill their humanitarian and legal duty not just by issuing statements, but with effective action to stop the hostilities, guarantee humanitarian access, prosecute the criminals, and cut off foreign support.
