Moscow: Necessary Work Underway on Iranian Section of Rasht-Astara Railway
Tehran - BORNA - Alexey Overchuk, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister, announced significant progress in the establishment of the Azerbaijani section of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) today (Sunday).
Speaking to reporters, Overchuk stated: "Significant results have been achieved in the Azerbaijani section. Concurrently in Iran, land plots for the Rasht-Astara railway are being purchased, a supporting geodetic network has been established, and design, surveying, and aerial photography work are underway." The senior Russian official emphasized that "a normal working process is underway to prepare for the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway."
The official news agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan also reported that Overchuk mentioned Baku's readiness to allow the transit of Russian goods to Armenia.
He elaborated: "Two days ago, the Azerbaijani side presented us with the possibility of using the Azerbaijani railway for the transit of Russian goods through the territory of Azerbaijan to Armenia. We also have very interesting developments in this regard. Currently, Russian Railways, together with their colleagues in the region, are examining issues concerning how to organize these shipments. At the same time, relevant instructions have been issued through the Ministry of Agriculture for the development of this new logistical route."
