The Spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Ebrahim Rezaei, reported that Iran's Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, confirmed President Masoud Pezeshkian is serious about expanding relations with Russia and personally follows up on related matters. Rezaei noted that current Iran-Russia relations are at a "very good level."

Tehran - BORNA - Rezaei provided details of the Commission meeting which hosted Ambassador Kazem Jalali. The Ambassador delivered a report on the latest developments in Iran-Russia relations, especially in recent months, and answered questions from the Commission members.

Russia's Position on Nuclear Enrichment

According to Rezaei, Ambassador Jalali clarified that "the Russians have not suggested that the Islamic Republic of Iran should pursue zero enrichment," emphasizing that Russia's stance has not been and is not zero enrichment for Iran. The Ambassador confirmed that Russia has supported the Islamic Republic of Iran's position on the nuclear issue.

Jalali described Russia as a "large and powerful neighbor" and stressed the need for appropriate relations, noting that Russians consistently emphasize combating unilateralism.

The Ambassador highlighted Iran's recent strategic achievements, including its membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS, along with the signing of a Free Trade Agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states. He characterized these developments as valuable opportunities for developing economic ties, stating that relations are currently at a very good and developing level between the two countries.

Defense and Regional Cooperation

Rezaei reported that Jalali also provided a summary of visits by Iranian officials to Russia in recent months. Answering a question about the Israeli regime’s attack on Iran, the Ambassador stated that "the Russians were not informed of the Zionist regime’s attack on Iran."

In reference to bilateral cooperation, Jalali pointed out that during the fire at Shahid Rajaei Port and following the martyrdom of President Raisi, the Russians immediately offered support and cooperated very well with Iranian officials.

Rezaei also quoted the Ambassador regarding the purchase of advanced defense systems, stating that the "Islamic Republic of Iran has not submitted a request to Russia for the purchase of S-400."

Ambassador Jalali concluded by reiterating that President Pezeshkian is serious about developing relations with Russia and personally pursues some of the matters.
