Venezuelan Envoy: US Intent on Regime Change and Plundering Caracas' Wealth
Venezuela’s Ambassador to Iran has stated that the United States is seeking "regime change in Caracas as well as the plunder of the country’s wealth," amid escalating tensions and threats against the South American nation.

Tehran - ISNA - The remarks follow a warning issued on Monday by Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Yván Gil Pinto, who cautioned that a fabricated "false flag" operation, allegedly directed by the CIA against a U.S. military vessel, was being designed to create a pretext for a potential U.S. military attack.

Venezuelan authorities, supporting the Foreign Minister’s claims, have announced the arrest of mercenaries linked to the CIA who were allegedly tasked with carrying out the "false flag" attack in the region.

Adding to the government’s stance, Venezuelan Prosecutor General Tarek William Saab told the BBC network that the efforts for regime change are fundamentally aimed at seizing the country's vast natural resources, including oil, gold, and copper. The official, a close ally of President Nicolás Maduro, stated there was no doubt that the U.S. was attempting to overthrow the government, calling this the latest in a series of "failed" operations against Caracas.

US Actions Threaten the Caribbean Region

In a statement regarding the intensification of U.S. threats, José Rafael Silva Aponte, the Venezuelan Ambassador to Iran, asserted: "The imperialist government of the United States has increased its threats against Venezuela in recent days and has even warned that it is sending new ships to the region."

The Venezuelan diplomat stressed that "as President Maduro pointed out, the statements by U.S. officials pose a serious threat to our government and the Caribbean region," reiterating: "In fact, the Americans have regime change in Venezuela and the plunder of the country's wealth on their agenda."

Call for UN Intervention

The Ambassador concluded by expressing concern over global instability: "Unfortunately, we are witnessing an increase in threats all over the world; we recently witnessed attacks on Iran, and now we are witnessing U.S. threats against Venezuela and the Caribbean region."

He appealed to the international body, stating: "We hope that the United Nations will stand against these threats and prevent them from materializing, as stipulated in its Charter."
