Bakhtiari Secures Bronze at World Taekwondo Championships; Iran Concludes Event with Three Medals
Amirsina Bakhtiari, Iran's representative in the -74 kg weight class, won the Bronze Medal at the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships after being defeated by his Brazilian opponent in the semi-final.

Tehran - BORNA - Amirsina Bakhtiari, the last Iranian Taekwondo representative in the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships, entered the semi-final of the -74 kg weight class against Edival Pontes of Brazil, a World and Olympic Bronze medalist. Bakhtiari was ultimately defeated 2-0 and won the World Bronze Medal.

In this match, Bakhtiari lost in two consecutive rounds with scores of 3-3 and 12-2, missing out on a spot in the final.

Prior to the semi-final, Bakhtiari had defeated Frompat of Thailand 2-1 in the first round. He then overcame Javad Aghayev, a World Bronze medalist from Mexico, 2-0 (rounds 5-4 and 0-0) to advance to the round of 16, where he defeated Manicone of Italy 2-1. Bakhtiari then advanced to the semi-final after winning against Bekassil of Kazakhstan 2-0 (rounds 3-3 and 13-1).

Earlier in the final day of the competition, Mobina Ne’matzadeh, another Iranian representative and an Olympic Bronze medalist, was eliminated from the competition following a weak performance.

Iran's Taekwondo teams traveled to the championships with 15 athletes. Of this number, 12 Taekwondo practitioners, including the four Iranian medalists from the Paris Olympics—Mehran Barkhordari, Arian Salimi, Mobina Ne’matzadeh, and Nahid Kiyani—were eliminated after weak performances.

Iran’s medals were secured by Abolfazl Zandi (Gold in -58 kg), Mehdi Hajimousaei (Silver in -63 kg), and Amirsina Bakhtiari (Bronze in -74 kg).
