Ghalibaf: Iran, Iraq will stand against US, Israeli aggression
Tehran - BORNA - Ghalibaf made the remarks during a visit by an Iranian parliamentary delegation to the grave of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis at Wadi al-Salam cemetery in the Iraqi city of Najaf.
Speaking at the site, Ghalibaf thanked the Iraqi people on behalf of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and the Iranian nation for their participation in the funeral ceremonies for Iran’s “martyred Imam.”
“The meaningful and courageous presence of the Iraqi people in Najaf and Karbala brought comfort to our compatriots at a time when our nation was grieving,” he said.
Ghalibaf also praised Iraq for hosting millions of Iranian and other foreign pilgrims during the Arbaeen pilgrimage, saying the Iraqi people had once again demonstrated their hospitality by mobilizing their material and spiritual capacities to serve the pilgrims.
The Iranian parliament speaker said the United States and Israel should understand that unity among Muslim nations, particularly between Iran and Iraq, “will never be broken.”
He said the relationship is rooted in religious and cultural ties, including the Quran, devotion to the Ahl al-Bayt, the culture of Ashura and the shrine of Imam Ali (PBUH) in Najaf.
Ghalibaf said the two nations had made sacrifices for those principles and had stood alongside one another when they faced common threats.
Referring to the fight against Daesh, he said Iranian fighters stood alongside Iraqi forces when, in his words, the United States and Israel were pursuing plots through the terrorist group.
He also referred to what he called the “Ramadan War,” saying the Iraqi people had stood up during the conflict and that the blood of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and Iran’s late commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani had become symbols of that struggle.
“Iraq and our beloved Iran will stand against arrogance, just as they struck the United States in the Ramadan War and made it taste the bitterness of defeat,” Ghalibaf said.
“This path will continue as long as the enemy seeks aggression and threats against the Islamic Ummah, Iran and Iraq,” he added, stressing that ties between the two countries would remain intact.
Ghalibaf said the resistance front is now “more alive and more present in the field than ever” in confronting Israel and the United States.
He added that the movement had been built on the path of resistance and sacrifice, arguing that its ability to challenge US regional hegemony was rooted in the sacrifices of those killed in that struggle.
The Iranian parliament speaker concluded by stressing the importance of unity and solidarity among Iran, Iraq and the broader resistance front, saying they would continue what he described as the path of the martyrs and resistance.
