Araghchi Tells Lavrov: IAEA Must Avoid Actions Leading to Escalation
Tehran - BORNA - Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, spoke by phone with Sergey Lavrov, the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, this afternoon, Monday, to discuss the latest bilateral, regional, and international developments.
Iran's Foreign Minister, referring to diplomatic initiatives and consultations with his counterparts in the region, emphasized the necessity of continuing and accelerating dialogue and cooperation within a common framework among regional countries.
Araghchi also pointed to the continued cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Iran with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the rejection of the alleged snapback by some Western countries. He stressed that the Agency must remain neutral and refrain from actions that lead to increased tensions.
Sergey Lavrov welcomed the formation of the framework for regional consultation and cooperation and announced Moscow's readiness to continue close coordination with Tehran.
The Russian Foreign Minister also referred to Russia's efforts at the United Nations, emphasizing the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and rejecting any action that leads to disregarding the rights of the Palestinian people.
The two sides also agreed on coordinating positions and joint cooperation regarding the upcoming Board of Governors meeting, while reaffirming the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program.
The Foreign Ministers of Iran and Russia subsequently reviewed and followed up on the latest status of cooperation and consular issues between the two countries.
