Iran: US Military Attacks on Tankers Violate UN Charter and Ceasefire
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has strongly condemned the aggressive actions of the U.S. terrorist military against two Iranian tankers near the port of Jask and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as attacks on several locations in coastal areas overlooking the Strait.

Tehran - BORNA - The statement reads:

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the aggressive action taken by the U.S. terrorist military against two oil tankers belonging to the Islamic Republic of Iran near Jask and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the assaults carried out against several points in coastal areas overlooking the Strait, which occurred in the late hours of Thursday, May 7, and the early hours of Friday, May 8."

"These attacks were met with a powerful response and a 'heavy slap' from the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the aggressors failed to achieve their illegitimate objectives. These aggressive and provocative actions are not only a clear violation of the ceasefire understanding dated April 8, 2026, but also a gross violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter and constitute an act of aggression according to the Definition of Aggression (Resolution 3314) of the UN General Assembly."

"The continuation of aggressive acts combined with contradictory behaviors, absurd rhetoric, and scandalous projections by senior U.S. officials indicates the intensifying desperation and confusion of the U.S. ruling body and their extreme inability to 'identify the issue' and 'find a reasonable solution' to exit the self-inflicted quagmire."

"While emphasizing the determination of Iran's powerful Armed Forces to defend the territorial integrity, independence, and national sovereignty of Iran against any aggression or mischief, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs draws the attention of the United Nations Security Council and the Secretary-General to their responsibilities regarding the maintenance of international peace and security under the UN Charter. It warns of the dangerous consequences of UN indifference and appeasement toward the lawlessness and rogue behavior of the U.S. administration."

"It has now become clearer than ever that linking regional security and stability to the interventionist presence of the U.S. and other foreign actors is a mistake. The U.S. military presence in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman has not only failed to contribute to regional stability but has itself become the cause and source of insecurity with extensive regional and global consequences."

"Emphasizing its commitment to the policy of good neighborliness and respect for the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of all regional countries, the Islamic Republic of Iran once again invites regional governments to strive, with a responsible outlook based on recent experiences, to create an endogenous security mechanism built on collective trust and free from the destructive interference of extra-regional actors."
