Tehran’s priority is halting war and ending US maritime piracy: Official
An advisor to the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized that Tehran's top priorities are stopping the ongoing conflict, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and preventing American maritime piracy.

Tehran - BORNA - Ali Safari, advisor to the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, stated in an interview with Al-Mayadeen that there is deep-seated mistrust toward the United States, asserting: "Iran has responded to all provocative U.S. actions in the Strait of Hormuz."

"We currently view this process as an attempt to rebuild trust with the U.S., especially since Iran remains pessimistic about all American actions," Safari added. He noted that while most wars end with negotiations, "with the U.S., negotiations often lead to war." He confirmed that Iran continues to receive messages through various channels claiming that Washington does not seek further military escalation.

Regarding the current diplomatic efforts, the official stated: "We have received the U.S. response to Iran’s proposal and are currently reviewing it. Our provocations in the Strait were a direct response to U.S. attacks; their aggression can no longer be ignored. The U.S. cannot be allowed to use the Strait of Hormuz again to attack Iran and other regional nations."

Safari reiterated: "Our priority is stopping the war, opening the Strait, and preventing U.S. maritime piracy. When we speak of ending the war, we mean on all fronts, particularly in Lebanon."

The advisor also mentioned that Tehran remains in contact with official parties in Lebanon. Commenting on regional dynamics, he added: "Certain regional countries are preparing a draft resolution for the UN Security Council to condemn Iran, despite having opened their territories to U.S. aggression against us. The UAE is among the countries that have participated in the war against Iran."
