Gharibabadi: UAE betrayed Iran; we have no war with our neighbors
Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, delivered a decisive response to the baseless claims made by the UAE's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs at the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting, asserting that the UAE acted as an aggressor by facilitating attacks against Iran.

Tehran - BORNA - Gharibabadi stated: "The United Arab Emirates has played a significant role in supporting and facilitating military aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Therefore, a party that has contributed to the creation and escalation of tensions lacks the standing to raise political accusations and claims against Iran."

He added: "The UN General Assembly resolution adopted in 1974 states that if countries facilitate and provide services for aggressors, it does not mean they are merely assisting them; such action is equivalent to aggression. Thus, the UAE is an aggressor, not just an aide to aggressors."

The senior Iranian diplomat noted: "It is natural that Iran could no longer tolerate this. We are a capable, great nation with a proud people, and we could not watch our people and infrastructure being targeted by aggressors with the participation and companionship of one of our neighbors, namely the UAE."

Gharibabadi emphasized: "We had no choice but to strike all facilities of U.S. bases in the UAE, or any facilities and installations in which the U.S. has a share or participation. This was a war, and we defended our country in that war. This action is precisely in accordance with the UN Charter and within the framework of the right to legitimate self-defense. The UAE is an aggressor. You cannot hide behind these lies and hollow claims. The only country that must act according to its obligations under international law is the UAE."

He further added: "Let me remind you that a few days before the start of the aggression, since we had information about the possibility of an attack by the Israeli regime and the U.S., we sent official messages to regional countries, including the UAE. We warned them that if they assisted the aggressor and placed their territory and facilities at the aggressor's disposal, Iran would have no choice but to exercise its right to legitimate self-defense and target these facilities to defend the country."

Addressing the Emirati diplomat directly, Gharibabadi stated: "You may be an uninformed individual, but your country's high-ranking officials were certainly aware of this. You ignored these warnings and are now trying to play the role of the victim, while the real victim is the Islamic Republic of Iran, not the UAE."

He continued: "With your help and participation, and with the UAE's direct involvement in the aggression against Iran, 130,000 civilian targets were attacked by the aggressors. More than 4,000 innocent civilians have been martyred. You cannot hide behind these false claims; you are the aggressor."

Gharibabadi clarified: "You must accept responsibility for this action. We will pursue this through legal and international channels. All documents and evidence have been prepared in writing. So far, more than 120 official diplomatic notes, totaling over 500 pages, have been sent to the UN Security Council regarding this. Furthermore, every warplane that took off from the UAE has been documented with its time, date, and flight path recorded. All this evidence has been sent to the UN Security Council; therefore, you cannot claim you had no role in this aggression."

Continuing his remarks, Gharibabadi stated: "We have no war with our neighbors. Before the aggression occurred, we contacted regional countries and asked them not to provide any weapons or logistical support to the aggressors. Even after the aggression began, we contacted them and clarified that our war is with the Zionist regime and the United States, not with our neighbors or the UAE."

He added: "We are now seeing reports in Western and American media about a direct attack by the UAE against the Islamic Republic of Iran. This was not merely assistance or support; it was direct participation in aggression. You cannot hide your aggressive nature behind these fabricated narratives."

Concluding his response, Gharibabadi noted: "I cannot leave these false claims unanswered. The UAE not only betrayed the Islamic Republic of Iran as a neighboring country but is also betraying the Palestinian cause. In the midst of the war, they invited the Prime Minister of the Zionist regime to their country. Furthermore, whether here or in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), they defend the positions of the Zionist regime exactly like a representative and protector of Israel's interests. Playing the role of a representative for the Zionist regime is a role that the UAE has always performed and continues to perform."
