Lavrov calls for immediate end to war against Iran
Tehran - BORNA - Sergey Lavrov also continued: "India can mediate between Iran and the Persian Gulf countries. Furthermore, it is necessary to lift the blockade on energy supply through the Strait of Hormuz."
Quoting the Novosti news agency, the Russian Foreign Minister added during a meeting with his Indian counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, that in order to address the crisis involving Iran, it is essential to understand the root cause of the crisis, namely the unjustified aggression by the United States and Israel.
He then addressed the Ukraine issue, adding: "We will achieve our goals through military operations in Ukraine."
The senior Russian diplomat also commented on the trade agreements between China and the United States during U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to China and his meeting with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, stating: "Russia's relations with Beijing are good, and we do not interfere in the agreements it concludes with other countries."
He declared that Russia welcomes any U.S.-China agreement regarding energy supply and rejects the "divide and rule" policy in its relations with China and the United States, noting that Moscow fully complies with its obligations regarding energy supply to China.
The head of Russia's diplomatic apparatus also added that it is difficult to precisely understand what the United States wants from China regarding the Iran conflict. He described the U.S. demands on China to pressure Iran into opening the Strait of Hormuz as a "transparent game."
He noted that the European Union is seeking to draw Armenia into its sphere of influence, and Yerevan faces the risk of losing all its privileges in the Eurasian Economic Union.
Lavrov pointed out: "We do not take seriously the statements made by EU officials regarding the necessity of dialogue with Russia. Russia is open to dialogue with Europe, but it will not beg for it."
The Russian Foreign Minister further stated that the situation in the Middle East and North Africa is becoming increasingly complex due to Western intervention.
He noted that guaranteeing the rights of national minorities in Ukraine cannot be a precondition for a settlement, and Kyiv must fulfill this without any reciprocal concessions. He remarked that Ukraine is the only country that, despite a language being official, has experienced its total ban in all aspects of life.
In another part of his remarks, he emphasized that Russia and the United States reached clear understandings following the talks between Putin and Trump in Alaska. He stated that the "spirit" of the relationship between Putin and Trump has always been characterized by sincerity and mutual respect. During the Alaska summit between Putin and Trump, agreements were reached on the fundamental principles of a Ukrainian settlement. He added that the diplomatic path to resolving the Ukrainian conflict remains the best option for Russia, and if it fails, all objectives will be achieved within the framework of a special military operation.
He also pointed out that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Russia in 2026, and both sides are currently preparing for this visit.
