Gharibabadi: Sanctioning UN rapporteur exposes true face of U.S. human rights policy
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister stated that sanctioning a UN Special Rapporteur for demanding accountability at the International Criminal Court (ICC) exposes the true face of United States human rights policy.

Tehran - BORNA -Kazem Gharibabadi, the Deputy for Legal and International Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, wrote a message on his X social media account in response to a U.S. federal court's temporary injunction suspending the sanctions imposed by the U.S. government against Francesca Albanese:

"Media outlets report the issuance of a temporary injunction by a U.S. federal court suspending the sanctions imposed by the American government against Ms. Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.

In the U.S. dictionary, human rights are respected only as long as they do not apply to the Israeli regime. Wherever the accountability of the regime and its backers for the crimes in Gaza is brought up, Washington resorts to the tools of sanctions, threats, and intimidation instead of defending the law.

Sanctioning a UN Special Rapporteur for demanding accountability at the International Criminal Court exposes the true face of U.S. human rights policy: human rights for enemies, impunity for allies. This is the exact double standard that has held international justice hostage to Washington's political interests for years.

The United States cannot speak of a 'rules-based order' while simultaneously targeting every institution, expert, or mechanism that approaches the crimes of the Israeli regime with pressure.

If international law is only valid as long as it does not touch U.S. allies, it is no longer law; it is an instrument of domination. The independence of UN missions, the immunity of international experts, and the right of Palestinian victims to truth and justice must not fall victim to Washington's dread of the Israeli regime's accountability."
