Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf was re-elected as the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Iran's Parliament) for the seventh consecutive year on Monday.

Tehran - BORNA - During the internal elections held on Monday morning (May 25) for the presiding board of the parliament's third legislative year, Ghalibaf secured his position by winning 235 votes out of the 271 total votes cast.

The other contenders vying for the speakership were Mohammad Taqian Naqdali and Osman Salari. Naqdali obtained 29 votes, while Salari received 7 votes. Additionally, 5 blank ballots were registered, and a total of 276 voting cards had been distributed among lawmakers.

The voting process for the parliamentary presiding board marked a significant departure from previous years; while elections were traditionally conducted using paper ballots, this year's vote was held via direct electronic voting boxes.
